Small tourism entrepreneurs explore permits and taxes

WILLEMSTAD - To address uncertainties surrounding permits and tax obligations in the tourism sector, the advocacy group CASHA organized a well-attended information session on October 21. Entrepreneurs and professionals from the sector received detailed updates on changes to the permit system and tax regulations on the island. The session, open to both members and non-members, specifically targeted business owners.

Recently, CASHA has received numerous inquiries from entrepreneurs struggling with recent changes in the permit system. Both new and established business owners have been uncertain about the specific requirements for different types of businesses. In collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), CASHA provided comprehensive explanations during the first half of the session on the updated permit system, the transition period, and the necessary checklists for applications.

The second half of the session was led by Equilibrium Tax Solutions, which focused on the tax implications for sole proprietorships, limited liability companies, and corporations. Entrepreneurs were made aware of the risks associated with potential shortcomings during tax inspections, despite working with accountants.

CASHA has scheduled an exclusive follow-up meeting for its members, which will delve deeper into specific tax issues related to real estate.

CASHA is an industry organization representing the interests of smaller hotels, apartment complexes, and vacation rental operators in Curaçao. The association focuses on supporting its members with advice and information, improving quality within the sector, and promoting sustainable tourism growth on the island.
