Curaçao Expecting tourism boost after DJs and radio hosts promote destination with live broadcasts
WILLEMSTAD - Sandals Royal Curaçao recently hosted an influential gathering of over 50 leading U.S. radio DJs and media professionals for the resort’s 2024 staging of Radio Remote .
This significant occasion underscored the enduring impact of radio on travel decision-making, providing a dynamic platform for live broadcasts and audience engagement from the stunning settings of Sandals Royal Curaçao.
Dan Waters, general manager of Sandals Royal Curaçao, in expressing his enthusiasm for the event shared, “we are very proud to have hosted the Radio Remote event once again. This initiative not only offers us the opportunity to showcase the beauty of our destination to millions of radio listeners, but it also strengthens our connection with audiences across the United States. The extensive live broadcasts, starting as early as 5 a.m. highlighted our island’s allure and have set the stage for increased interest to travel to Curaçao. Our promotion efforts will continue through competitions, social media engagements, and direct interactions with booking agents, ensuring the impact of this event continues long after the DJs have left.”
Building on the success of the first Radio Remote in Curaçao in 2023, which saw participation from 69 stations and reached over 12 million listeners, this year’s event is expected to further enhance Curaçao’s visibility in the North American market.. Hugo Clarinda, deputy director of the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), highlighted the strategic importance of the event. “We are thrilled with the exposure this project provides us in our key North American market.
Since the opening of Sandals Royal Curaçao two years ago, we have witnessed remarkable growth in the U.S. visitor numbers, surpassing 100,000 for the first time last year in our history. Our goal is to exceed 200,000 visitors in the coming year, and initiatives like this Radio Remote play a crucial role in achieving that target. With numerous syndicated programmes reaching audiences across the U.S., the event helps sustain and amplify our growth momentum.”
In addition to the broadcast activities, the visiting DJs, radio hosts, and friends enjoyed off-site tours of Curaçao, facilitated by the CTB. They explored the vibrant downtown Willemstad and engaged in an array of culinary and cultural experiences at the Sandals Royal Curaçao.
