Minister Cijntje optimistic about Canadian market development

Westjet to increase flight frequency between December and April

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Ruisandro Cijntje of the Ministry of Economic Development is pleased with the encouraging news recently published by the Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB) regarding WestJet's winter schedule for the 2023/2024 period. This signifies an increase in the number of direct weekly flights to Curaçao, offering growth opportunities for our economy and a boost to our tourism sector.

According to the CTB, starting from December 18, 2023, until April 1, 2024, flights between Toronto and Curaçao will increase to twice a week on Sundays and Mondays. These flights to Curaçao will be operated using a Boeing 737 MAX with a capacity of 174 seats. The Minister views this development positively as it is a direct result of high demand from Canada for Curaçao. This is a positive outcome for our country, especially considering the recent tourism statistics released by the CTB, where Canada ranked among the top 5 countries that visited Curaçao in the month of August. Additionally, the Minister is pleased that our community will have more travel options to visit Toronto, potentially leading to increased connections and collaboration between Curaçao and Canada.

Minister Cijntje applauds the close collaboration between WestJet and local partners, including the Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB), Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), and the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA). These entities are tirelessly working to make Curaçao more accessible to tourists from Canada. According to the Minister, we must continue these efforts to create and strengthen alliances with strategic partners to expand opportunities for more travelers to visit our country. These ongoing efforts and strategic promotions to attract more tourists continue to support us on the path to the growth of the tourism sector, one of the key pillars driving our economy.
