Krioyo Film Festival announces inaugural edition in Curaçao: A celebration of Papiamento-language cinema

WILLEMSTAD - The Krioyo Film Festival (KFF) proudly announces the launch of its inaugural edition, scheduled to run from October 28 to November 3, 2024, at Caribbean Cinemas Curaçao in the Sambil Shopping Mall. This festival will celebrate the richness of Papiamento-language cinema, focusing on films from Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, and showcasing the unique cultural and linguistic heritage of the ABC islands. 

Empowering Local Talent and Stories 

KFF’s mission is to provide a prestigious platform for filmmakers, writers, producers, actors, and industry professionals from the Papiamento-speaking Caribbean. By focusing on local cinema, the festival will highlight vibrant and diverse stories from these islands, giving filmmakers the opportunity to present their work to a global audience. Through screenings, panel discussions, and interactive events, KFF aims to inspire the next generation of filmmakers and elevate Caribbean cinema on the international stage. 

Inaugural Highlights 

Red carpet opening ceremony on October 28, 2024, featuring local and international stars, industry professionals, and special guests. 

A lineup of feature films, short films, and documentaries, all in Papiamento or subtitled in English. 

Workshops and panel discussions with leading industry experts, covering storytelling, production techniques, and opportunities for international collaboration. 

The prestigious Golden Cactus Award, honoring outstanding achievements in filmmaking, acting, and screenwriting from the Papiamento-speaking regions.
