First Students of UoC International Tourism Program Graduate

WILLEMSTAD - The first students of the International Hospitality & Tourism Management program have graduated. They were celebrated last Saturday. This new program began four years ago at the specific request of the private sector, which was concerned about the severe staff shortage resulting from rapid tourism development. In January 2022, the program received a positive evaluation from the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization regarding its quality.

Over the years, the team has established strong connections with various key entities to benefit the program and students in the tourism and hospitality industry. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with CTB, CHATA, and Fundashon Bon Intenshon, and alliances have been formed with several entities within the tourism sector.

Partners

Students have received training at hotels and other establishments such as Avila Beach Hotel, Lions Dive Beach Resort Curaçao, Dreams Curaçao Resort, and Sandals Royal Curaçao. Other participating organizations include TUI, Curaçao Airport Holding, Curaçao Airport Partners, and Carmabi Curaçao.

The program maintains close ties with the Dutch Ministry of Education and with secondary schools such as MIL, Radulphus College, and Kolegio Alejandro Paula, as well as vocational preparation institutions like Nilda Pinto Sbo and Maris Stella Sbo.

In 2023, the program partnered with ROC Mondriaan in the Netherlands to leverage the practical experience and knowledge of this renowned institution. Thanks to this collaboration, ROC Mondriaan, CTB, and CHATA jointly established the Parasasa Hotel Curaçao, where UoC students can gain valuable industry experience.

The teaching staff of the IH&TM program consists of 95% local experts with extensive experience in the tourism and hospitality sector. Students also have the opportunity to attend guest lectures from both local and international industry professionals.

Internships

Four of the six recent graduates completed their final-year internships at the "all-inclusive" hotel Zoëtry Marigot Bay in St. Lucia (part of the Hyatt hotel chain), while one student interned at Floris & Van Maurik Catering & Events in the Netherlands and another at Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort Curaçao.

These first six graduates, all women, are Rula Kaddoura Kaddoura, Marsha Brand, Aaliyah Johannes, Izaima Phelipa, Marie Christine Zwueste, and Judaira Wilmans. Some of these graduates are already employed, while others are still deciding on their future employers.
