Background Bloom
Founded in 2009, Bloom is a global community of visionary creatives who "come together to learn from each other's wisdom, inspire each other and celebrate our lives." It is facilitated by Black Gay men of Africa and its Diaspora living in the Caribbean, North America and Europe. Based in New York City, Bloom's transformal learning experiences, destination events, dance parties and creative collectives are open to everyone. Bloom, according its founder Olubode Shawn Brown, "... is what heals us, and it is our gift to the world."
Billed as "5 days to discover what freedom means to you," the Festival is designed as a transformative journey through the five elements of creation. Each day's events are dedicated to one of the five elements: mineral, nature, fire, water & earth. The Festival's nightly ritual parties honors each element and climaxes 5 days chuck-full of activities including but not limited to local tours, water-sports, discussions, experiential workshops and performances.
After 8 years in Jamaica the festival comes to Curaçao to continue a global adventure that connects the dots of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Bloom honors Curaçao as a place of departure for enslaved Africans who transited from here to South America and the Caribbean. We are attracted to Curaçao by the diversity of its culture and its language. It is a safe place for diversity of all kinds to be expressed.
