Urgent call for public disclosure of tax exemption documents

President of Parliament Charetti Maria America-Francisca is urged to take immediate action and convene a public parliamentary meeting to address the suspicious activities related to tax exemptions.

Following the Central Committee meeting on August 19, 2024, no conclusive results were achieved regarding Finance Minister Javier Silvania’s conduct. Silvania’s actions suggest a lack of transparency, raising concerns that he may be misleading the public.

During the meeting, Silvania repeatedly asserted that he had not granted any tax exemptions and that he was acting in compliance with the law. However, evidence indicates that he did grant exemptions and did not adhere to legal procedures. It is essential for the minister to promptly disclose the actions and decisions of Receiver/Advisor Wim Nijdam, the Fiscal Affairs Directorate, and the documents showing the Ministerial Council’s approval of these actions. This disclosure will reveal whether Silvania followed the required approval process.

Additionally, Silvania must clarify why he deviated from the Ministerial Council's approval and whether he altered the “date of approval” to grant exemptions for taxes from 2017 and earlier. This issue is based on credible information from high-level MFK representatives, particularly from Minister Cooper’s sector, who suggest that Silvania may face repercussions. These representatives claim that Silvania did not adhere to the Ministerial Council’s approval and pursued his own agenda.

If there are further documents that explain or justify his actions, Silvania must make them public. As he advocates for transparency, he must prove it by releasing all relevant documents.

The involvement of other ministers in the parliamentary session, purportedly to support Silvania, seems to be a protective measure aimed at concealing the truth. Their support does not clear Silvania of wrongdoing but instead implicates them in his illegal actions. Their public endorsement and misinformation only exacerbate the situation.

Consequently, the PNP has exited the stage, and their departure has come at a crucial time.

The Prime Minister should consider publicly disclosing the documents to resolve this issue. Transparency is critical, and ultimately, the truth will emerge.
