June 2, 2025, must go down as a historic date in Curaçao’s political timeline — not for progress, but for what feels like a crushing defeat of democracy and integrity.
Despite all the public discussions, serious warnings, and formal complaints about corruption and abuse of power, every single ministerial candidate has passed the mandatory screening process without issue. How is this possible?
There was talk of Parliament’s authority being ignored, of misconduct being reported, of whistleblowers raising the alarm — and yet, the result is a green light for all candidates, as if none of it mattered. It’s as though personal gain, selfishness, and corruption now walk freely, no longer hidden, but functioning openly within the margins of legality.
The silence from our institutions is deafening. Where are the voices of those sworn to protect our democratic principles? Why has no one spoken out?
This isn’t just about politics — it’s about the soul of our nation. Curaçao appears to be heading down a dangerous slope, where democratic norms are undermined, and public trust is trampled.
We are living through a moment of moral collapse. Integrity, once considered a cornerstone of leadership, is now being sidelined. The blows being dealt to our democracy are real and damaging, and they will take years to recover from — if we ever do.
We, the people, must demand accountability. Silence can no longer be our response. If we continue to accept this status quo, we become complicit in it. Curaçao deserves better.
