WILLEMSTAD - The recently published Social Security and Social Services report by the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW) is open for discussion. Decision-making on social security will follow consultations with stakeholders.
This was revealed in Minister Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia’s responses yesterday in Parliament to questions previously posed by members of Parliament.
The minister explained that the report presents many potential solutions, from which a choice must be made through discussions with various stakeholders and groups within society.
Following these discussions, a policy can be developed. "The subject is so important that no single minister can decide on it. It must be an inclusive process, where everyone can provide their input. Ultimately, we aim to decide with the government that considers all perspectives," said the minister.
Implementation
The implementation of the proposals outlined in the report depends on the conversations held with social partners and the choices made for the short, medium, and long term.
"We cannot provide a date for when potential reforms will start. This can only be determined once we have reached a national agreement."
