WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao has taken a major step toward expanding educational opportunities beginning with St. Antonius, the island’s first English-language immersion school. This development offers local students greater options for higher education abroad, especially in the United States, and is expected to encourage students who study internationally to return and contribute to Curaçao’s economy and community.

The U.S. Department of State has been a key supporter of the program, initially contributing $115,000 in grants to help develop St. Antonius’s curriculum and train its teachers as part of a broader goal to foster economic diversification in Curaçao. During a visit on Wednesday, Assistant Secretary of State Brian Nichols announced an additional grant of $60,000 to expand the immersion program, bringing total U.S. support to $175,000.
The new grant will enable St. Antonius to continue its English immersion program and provide resources to extend similar programs to other schools across Curaçao and the Dutch Caribbean’s sister islands, creating wider access to English-language education throughout the region.
