WILLEMSTAD - The slow working towards group immunity for the coronavirus, as Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said yesterday in a press conference, cannot be applied to Curaçao.
According to epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth, this disrupts society. This is because the medical services will get under a lot of pressure, in absolute figures this exceeds the care capacity of Curaçao.
A large country like the Netherlands can do that, but it cannot be allowed here. With our capacity it will mainly be to detect and to minimize.
The spread of the virus will undoubtedly happen according to Dr. Gerstenbluth, but this must, especially here, be as limited and small-scale as possible.
