U.S. to use Curaçao as humanitarian hub for one year

WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - According to the Kingdom Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok, the agreement between the Dutch Kingdom and the U.S. to use Curaçao as a hub for humanitarian aid is valid for one year.

Minister Blok made this announcement after questions from the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Dutch Parliament.

As previously announced, this temporary treaty regulates, among other things, the civil nature of aid to Venezuela. Negotiations are still being ongoing with the United States.

Because of these ongoing negotiations, Blok cannot yet say anything concrete about the content of the treaty. He says that the new treaty has nothing to do with the status of forces agreement (Sofa treaty), the reason for the committee's questions. There is a link with the Forward Operation Location (FOL) treaty, according to the minister's answer. 'Privileges and immunities' from that treaty would be declared applicable to civilian U.S. personnel for the hub.
