Update: Isla Refinery threatens to close by May-June

WILLEMSTAD - The Isla Refinery can still pay salaries until July, after that it's all over. Employees were informed about this last Friday. Possibly even earlier, because the cash flow from the refinery is not going well.

A closing at the end of May is also taken into account due to the financial seizures of oil from the Venezuelan parent company PdVSA. As a result, hardly any oil comes is being transported to the refinery in Curaçao which in turn means no income.

That means a possible loss of 2000 jobs, directly at the refinery and indirectly through contractors.
