WILLEMSTAD - On July 1, the borders were opened to tourists from countries with less risk of transmission of COVID-19. The Curaçao Government and the crisis team made this decision after thorough analysis and advice from experts. This applies, for example, to the Netherlands, which, based on data, can be concluded that the chance that persons from that country can spread the virus on our island is relatively small. For the time being, the borders will remain closed to countries such as The United States, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, where it has not yet been possible to control the local spread of COVID-19.
The borders are open to tourism from the Netherlands with all necessary care and preparation. It has been ensured that Curaçao is much better prepared for possible cases, the tourism sector is well informed, precautions have been taken and instructions have been given to the community to reduce the possible risk as much as possible. In addition, all passengers traveling to Curaçao are tested in the Netherlands. In addition, all passengers must take out travel insurance that covers possible expenses if a person becomes ill. To date, Curaçao has been able to receive more than 2000 passengers free of COVID-19 from the Netherlands.
We see that more and more countries are re-opening their borders, which makes sense because the Corona virus will not disappear, and no country can keep its borders closed indefinitely. It is important that we take our responsibility and continue to follow the hygiene rules:
When you feel sick, stay at home and contact your doctor;
Wash your hands frequently with soap or “hand sanitizer”;
Cough or sneeze in your elbow;
Avoid places where it is difficult to maintain social distance.
