Transition supervisor not yet appointed

WILLEMSTAD - The transition supervisor, as agreed in the Curaçao Growth Strategy cooperation covenant has still not been appointed. At the end of January this covenant between Curacao and the Netherlands was signed by Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

The intention was that civil servants from the Netherlands would come to Curacao under the leadership of the transition counselor to stimulate the economy and improve government administration. The criticism at the time was that Curacao would have been placed under guardianship by the Netherlands, but for the time being it does not seem to be the case.

Premier Rhuggenaath says that although conversations have been held, the right person has not yet been found. He also admits that it is not yet clear what role this transition supervisor will play in terms of assistance and support.

He hopes to gain clarity about the Growth Strategy within a few weeks and further agreements will be made with the Netherlands.
