STOCKHOLM - The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has issued an immediate prohibition against Versus Odds BV, a Curaçao-based operator, for providing online gambling services in Sweden without the necessary license.
The decision, announced on January 2, 2025, follows an investigation into the operator's website, fortunepanda.com. Spelinspektionen's inspection revealed that the site featured Swedish-language content, including terms, policy documents, FAQs, and promotional materials, indicating a clear targeting of Swedish consumers. Additionally, Swedish players were able to register and create accounts on the platform.
Under Sweden's Gambling Act (2018:1138), operators must obtain a license to offer gambling services within the country. Spelinspektionen determined that Versus Odds BV was in violation of these regulations, which are designed to protect consumers and promote responsible gambling practices. Despite being given the opportunity to respond to the findings, the company did not provide comments before the ban was enforced.
This enforcement action is part of Spelinspektionen's ongoing efforts to combat unlicensed gambling and channel players toward licensed operators. The regulator has intensified its enforcement in recent months, including issuing sanctions against other operators for unauthorized activities.
The ban on Versus Odds BV is effective immediately, and the operator is required to cease offering any gambling services to Swedish consumers. Spelinspektionen emphasizes that compliance with this decision is crucial to ensure consumer protection and maintain the integrity of Sweden's regulated gambling market.
