Survey shows: CBCS image not positive

WILLEMSTAD - The image of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) on Curaçao is not positive. This is the result of a survey conducted among the readers of Curacao.nu by consultancy Linkels & Partners, which gauged the opinion on the conditions imposed by the Netherlands for further financial aid in the context of the COVID crisis.

The survey was also conducted via Whatsapp and via the Facebook pages of Linkels & Partners and therefore does not only include readers of this online news medium.

The online survey, which contained questions in both Dutch and Papiamentu, was completed 1338 times in a 48-hour period. To considering the results, respondents who are not residents or who were not born on the island were excluded from the analysis. This means that the group of respondents included in the analysis is 1178.

Also, the question about CBCS was not answered by all respondents. This left 1115 respondents who answered the questions about CBCS.

With the statement "Our Central Bank (CBCS) is a prestigious and respected institution", only 24.8% of the respondents partially or completely agree. 48.4% of the respondents partially or largely disagree with the statement. 26.7% of the respondents indicate that they neither agree nor disagree with the statement.

A comparison of answers with a survey conducted in Aruba by the same agency shows that CBCS scores worse than the Central Bank of Aruba, where only 21.3% believe that CBA cannot be described as a prestigious and respected institution.
