WILLEMSTAD - During the opening of the new parliamentary year yesterday, it once again became clear what effect COVID-19 has on the lives of the Curaçao population. This was apparent from the speech of Governor Lucille George-Wout.

"Everything has changed since 2020. Events that used to be a big celebration are now sober or canceled completely. The COVID-19 pandemic has a major impact on everyone; people have lost their jobs, they have become ill or have even died. But the pandemic has also shown how resilient and tenacious the Curaçao population is." George-Wout said on behalf of the government.

According to the governor, the new government wants to show the population that they too have this resilience and tenacity, "By working hard and forming the right partnerships. The Caribbean Organ for Reform and Development (COHO), which was approved on August 13, is an example of a good start," the governor said.

“The government is developing a recovery plan. "A plan that will have to serve as a compass for all facets of life. To ensure that everyone develops further to a higher level, including financially, socially, and of course also in terms of health."

"Enough time has been wasted. Now is the time for action," said the new government.
