SP: Postpone Curacao’s joining treaty on admission of American soldiers until peace in the region

THE HAGUE - Only the parliamentary factions of D66 and the SP question the timing why Curacao wants to join a treaty of the Kingdom with the United States that has existed since 2012 for the admission of American soldiers.

At least, these parties are the only two who have taken advantage of the opportunity to prepare for the treatment of the Kingdom Act by asking written questions to Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs for Curacao. He would have preferred to arrange the incorporation of Curacao to the treaty with the tacit consent of the Chamber, but SP Member of Parliament Sadet Karabulit put a stop to that.

Until today, the political groups had the opportunity to submit questions. The VVD has indicated that it has no questions. D66 and SP do, however, elaborate on the proposal. They point to the threats of the US President Donald Trump with military intervention in Venezuela. "Would it be sensible to postpone the extension of the agreement until peace in the region has returned and the US is no longer making military threats against Venezuela, prohibited by the UN Charter," the SP said.
