Shaidrilon "Lon" Mutueel detained on suspicion of sedition and arson

WILLEMSTAD - Shaidrilon "Lon" Mutueel, one of the "leaders" of the group of protesters, made up of disgruntled employees of Selikor and the Refinery, has been arrested on suspicion of sedition and of arson. This was confirmed by his lawyer, Athena Sulvaran, when asked.

Mutueel is currently being questioned. Sulvaran explains that there is still no clarity regarding the status of the investigation. Mutueel must appear before the examining magistrate today. "Only then will we get more clarity," said Sulvaran.

Escalation

Mutueel wanted on the morning of June 24 that Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath would attend "Post 5" and hear the dissatisfaction of those present. The Premier had no intention of doing this. For this reason, the group of protesters decided to walk to Fort Amsterdam and demand the resignation of the Prime Minister.

The mood was said to be so high that the riot team decided to spray the activists with tear gas. This was followed by an escalation, where cars and vacant homes were set on fire, among other things. Mutueel was arrested in the evening and taken to the police station. The police made more than 45 arrests in total during that first night.
