Schools to Remain Closed on Tuesday, October 21, as a Precaution Due to Weather Conditions

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, has announced the decision to close all schools in Curaçao on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, as a precautionary measure related to developing weather conditions.

The decision was made following consultations between the Meteorological Department of Curaçao (MeteoCuraçao), the Crisis Coordination Team (Rampenbureau), and the Prime Minister, as well as based on information provided by the National Hurricane Center. It was determined that Curaçao could fall within the alert zone of a meteorological system expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds over the coming hours and days.

Although the situation is still developing, the government decided to close all schools on Tuesday out of concern for the safety of students, parents, and school staff. This precautionary step aims to prevent unsafe situations on the roads or in traffic during adverse weather.

School boards have been requested to take the necessary steps to inform their staff, students, and parents about this decision.

The government will continue to closely monitor weather conditions in coordination with MeteoCuraçao and the Crisis Coordination Team. Additional information regarding further safety measures or the resumption of school activities will be shared through official communication channels.

According to current forecasts, schools are expected to reopen on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The public is urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay tuned to updates from MeteoCuraçao and the Government of Curaçao through official media channels.
