WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath wants to present the establishment of a Caribbean reform entity to the Council of State (RvS). According to Rhuggenaath, the organization of the reform entity goes against the law, the Statute and democracy. He said that during a recent panel discussion.
The government of Curaçao wants to enter into a dialogue and work together with the Netherlands. The government supports the proposed reforms but wants to change the way the Dutch government wants to implement it. The Council of State can review the consensus Kingdom Act and the Curaçao government can thus reach an agreement together with the Dutch government. Curaçao wants more say in the reform entity.
During the panel discussion, Rhuggenaath expressed the hope that the Netherlands does not see Curaçao's position as a criticism, but as a run-up to entering into dialogue with each other.
In the formal response that went to the Netherlands last week, the Prime Minister has requested the Netherlands to pay out part of the third tranche in advance. In this way, payment of salaries can be guaranteed and thus the service to the population.
