WILLEMSTAD - As of January 27, 2020, Ms. Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé has resigned as Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (OWCS), after the Public Prosecution Service (OM) had indicated that it would initiate a criminal investigation. Following the ongoing investigation, Ms. Alcalá-Wallé has been granted an exemption from service due to special circumstances for three months.
Ms. M. Alcalá-Wallé has been a civil servant for 30 years and previously worked for the Ministry of OWCS and the Ministry of General Affairs, among others. As of April 28, Ms. Alcalá Wallé would be restored to activity as a Policy Officer at the Ministry of OWCS. However, due to the fact that the criminal investigation has not yet been completed, in accordance with government policy in such cases, the former minister has been denied access to the ministry for a period of three months.
Ms. Alcalá-Wallé was recently authorized by the Ministry for a personal meeting with the Secretary General of OWCS about the coming period.
