Prime Minister reflects on the future of the harbor

WILLEMSTAD - On his social media, the Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath reflected a little bit on the long process of negotiation about the future of the harbor. Rhuggenaath says that in September of 2016 as Minister of Economic Development after much deliberation about the future of our harbor and the relationship with Curaçao Port Services (CPS), a concession was negotiated.  In this new concession, CPS - the local operator of the container terminal - also took on the responsibility to fix the quays and invest in new cranes. “One can only imagine how happy I was to see the two new ‘Gantry Cranes’ enter our Ana Bay last Sunday.”

“It was great seeing our professionals in action once again during this massive operation. Maybe not everything went as planned, no matter how prepared you are, there is always risk involved. The professionalism demonstrated in the heat of the moment is to be commended. A big PABIEN to KTK, CPO and our ‘Havenmeester’ for a job well done, also to CPS, CPA, Minister Giselle Mc William, Minister Zita Jesus-Leito,” said the Prime Minister.

“Most importantly: Curaçao congrats with this great milestone! I am confident that this investment will contribute to build more trust, efficiency and operational security in our container terminal services. An upgrade that will benefit all clients and our community in general. Yet another step in our efforts to strengthen the economy and future developments in our Maritime sector.”
