Prime Minister: National lockdown extended for two more weeks

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath announced today during the daily briefing that the measures taken in the fight against COVID-19 will be extended for two more weeks.

But the government and the medical professionals won't be idle this week, says the Prime Minister. “This week we look at how we can ease the measures step by step and what we can do to go back to a running economy, but in a responsible way.”

The Prime Minister says that for example, certain shops can open again. “We evaluate this coming Saturday to see if we can relax a bit. The question remains which way should we go to enter a new phase and help the economy step by step.”

Last Saturday the government met with health care professionals to evaluate the measures and what should be done so that the situation does not escalate back. This is when it was decided to extend for two more weeks.
