WILLEMSTAD - Seven members of the American Congress made a historic visit to Curaçao on Wednesday 24 April. It was the first time in 22 years that members of the American Congress visited Curaçao.

All conversations focused on the economic, political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and the far-reaching consequences that the continuing uncertain situation has for Curaçao.

The consequences of the American sanctions against Venezuela and PDVSA for the refinery in Curaçao and for the economy of the island now have been considered. Discussions have been held with Congressmen on how they can promote the necessary safeguards against the sanctions for Curaçao.
Possible cooperation issues have also been raised between the American states they represent with Curaçao, and a plea has been made to stimulate American investment in Curaçao.
