Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas Holds Farewell Meeting With the Consul General of China

WILLEMSTAD – On April 4, 2025, Prime Minister Mr. Gilmar Pisas held a farewell meeting with the Consul General of China, Mr. Li Yigang. 

Consul General Li Yigang was present together with his spouse, Mrs. Wang Wenqiu, Consul Wang Fanfu, Vice Consul Wang Haokun, and Ms. Sophia Tang. 

The purpose of the visit was for Consul General Li Yigang to have his final meeting, in his role as Consul General of China, with Prime Minister Mr. Gilmar Pisas and to also congratulate Prime Minister Pisas on the outcome of the 2025 elections. 

During the visit, they took the opportunity to briefly elaborate on the recent decision taken by the United States regarding the tariffs imposed on countries around the world, the consequences of that decision, and possible alternatives or positions that could be taken in response. 

Consul General Li Yigang’s term as Consul General of China is coming to an end in Curaçao. He will depart Curaçao on April 16, 2025. Until the arrival of the new Consul General, Consul Wang Fanfu will serve as his interim replacement. 

Prime Minister Mr. Pisas expressed his gratitude to Consul General Li Yigang for all that he has meant and done for Curaçao and, as a token of appreciation, presented him with a beautiful memento to remember Curaçao by. 

In turn, Consul General Li Yigang thanked Prime Minister Mr. Pisas for the support he received from the Government of Curaçao and the people of Curaçao. He also expressed his gratitude for the way the Chinese community is accepted and supported on the island. 

The conversation was very pleasant and fruitful.
