Press release: Central Bank to investigate memo

WILLEMSTAD, PHILIPSBURG - The Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten regrets the negative reports about the Central Bank of the past days. In these reports there are confidential information that the Bank would have at its disposal.

First, the Supervisory Board states that it attaches great importance to reliability and integrity of the Central Bank as an institution. The discretion, integrity and reliability of the CBCS must be beyond any doubt.

The Supervisory Board has taken note of the available information and has decided to independently investigate the facts and circumstances of the recent events. The Board will review based on these facts and circumstances to what extent there were actions against the Bank Statute and the Country of Curaçao. After this investigation, the Board will take appropriate measures.

Candidate minister Neysa Schoop-Isenia has sued and threatened the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS), and in particular acting President Leila Matroos-Lasten, with a complaint and claim for damages.

This in connection with the ad interim President's making available to the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha a memorandum on Schoop-Isenia from 2014. The attorney of the intended minister speaks about 'extremely negative statements' made by the CBCS in in the context of the screening procedure.
