Pisas and Minister Hoekstra discuss Venezuela's situation

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas had a virtual meeting with the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra. During the meeting, the ministers had the opportunity to discuss various points, including the inauguration of the president of Chile and the situation with Venezuela.

During his visit to Chile, Pisas took the opportunity to speak to the new president Gabriel Boric. The prime minister expressed his gratitude for the way in which the embassy in Chile has arranged everything regarding his visit.

In conversation with Hoekstra, Pisas expressed his concerns about the situation with Venezuela, because there has been no response from the Venezuelan authorities to the request to open the borders of both countries. “As far as Curaçao is concerned, everything is being done to reopen the borders,” said Pisas.

The war between Ukraine and Russia was also discussed during the meeting. For example, the consequences that the situation could have on relations with Venezuela were discussed. In addition, Pisas talked about the challenges Curaçao faces with migrants from the neighboring country.

Hoekstra emphasized that he is very concerned about the situation in Ukraine. “The Netherlands will intervene in a clear manner by means of sanctions,” said the Dutch minister. He also stated that the whole world will suffer consequences of the war and must make preparations for it. Hoekstra would like to visit Curaçao and will remain in contact with Pisas.
