Session postponed following resignation of Minister Javier Silvania
WILLEMSTAD - The Parliament of Curaçao has cancelled the public meeting that was scheduled for Friday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m., which was set to discuss the recording that surfaced on social media involving Finance Minister Javier Silvania and the Landsontvanger (Tax Receiver) of Curaçao.
In an official notice issued on behalf of the President of Parliament, it was announced that the meeting has been postponed until further notice. The statement explains that due to the recent resignation of Minister Silvania, the purpose for which the meeting was initially requested can no longer be fulfilled.
The session had been expected to include deliberations with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the Head of the Landsontvanger’s Office, in light of the leaked audio recording that drew widespread public attention earlier this week. The p
arliamentary notice did not specify when the discussion might be rescheduled, only stating that a new date will be announced in due course.
The cancellation has already sparked concern among opposition members, particularly the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP), which issued a statement earlier today criticizing the decision as an obstruction of Parliament’s constitutional duty to exercise oversight over the executive branch.
The matter involving the recording and its implications for government transparency and accountability remains under intense public scrutiny.
