WILLEMSTAD - It took a while but finally today Parliament was able to approve Shaheen Elhage’s credentials to become Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAR. This brings the total for the coalition to 11 MPs which gives them again a small majority.
The person who made it happen was Member of Parliament for the opposition party Movementu Progresivo Dr. Marilyn Moses. She attended the public meeting after the judge ruled in the case filed by Elhage last week. Judge Kimberly Lasten ordered Moses this morning to sign the roll call which will form the majority needed to approve the credentials. This is important because, without this approval, the Governor cannot swear in a Member of Parliament.
Moses indicated after signing the roll call that she does not agree with the court's ruling but will respect it and will cooperate to fill the vacancy in parliament.
With Elhage as MP, the government will have a small majority again.
