Opposition party wants to continue debate on refinery

WILLEMSTAD - More than two weeks have passed since the parliamentary debate with Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath on the Isla refinery. The Prime Minister had then asked for two weeks to provide answers to numerous questions asked to him. Since then, no call has been made to resume the meeting and the opposition party MFK is wondering when the meeting will continue.

In a letter to the Vice-President of Parliament, Eugene Cleopa, the MFK Group Chairman, Gilmar "Pik" Pisas, states that there are persistent rumors that the company being negotiated with for future acquisition of the refinery wants to take over the refinery for one dollar.

According to Pisas, this is an unacceptable proposal. Not only for the MFK party, but for the majority of the population of Curaçao. “It is very important to continue the meeting about the refinery; that is why the MFK faction is approaching you, as Vice-President of parliament, with a request to resume the meeting as soon as possible, and in any case before 31 December,” said Pisas in his letter to the Vice President of Parliament.

In this way parliament can conclude the debate with the Prime Minister, staff and contractors of the Isla refinery and it is clearer to everyone what the future of the refinery and its staff entails, says Pisas.
