New package of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela has impact on Isla refinery

WILLEMSTAD - A new package of sanctions by the United States against the Venezuelan state oil company PdVSA comes into force on 28 April.

For example, the PdVSA accounts in America are frozen from that date on and Americans are no longer allowed to trade with the company. This will have far-reaching consequences for the refinery in Curaçao which is operated by PdVSA. This is according to Marcelino de Lannoy, interim director of the Refineria.

According to De Lannoy, the planned lease at the end of the year is not in danger. But after April 28, the Isla can no longer perform various essential activities.
