Minister Middelhof Gives Businesses 30 Days to Get Their Permits in Order

Zero tolerance policy to take effect after inspection period

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof announced during a press conference on Thursday that all businesses and hospitality establishments in Curaçao have 30 days to review and regularize their operating permits.

According to Minister Middelhof, this 30-day grace period is designed to give entrepreneurs a fair opportunity to ensure all their documentation is complete and up to date. However, he made it clear that after this period, a strict zero-tolerance policy will be enforced for any business operating without valid permits.

“Just as you must pay your insurance and road tax, you must also apply for a business or hospitality license,” Middelhof said. “These regulations are not meant to restrict but to protect — to ensure that all businesses can operate safely and fairly, and that consumers maintain trust in our market.”

The minister emphasized that the end of the year is an especially important time for many entrepreneurs who aim for a strong finish. “Everyone wants a successful year-end, but that starts with responsibility,” he said. “Make sure your permits are in order so that you can continue your operations without worry.”

The inspection team of the Ministry of Economic Development will actively monitor compliance during and after the 30-day period. Businesses found operating without proper documentation risk facing sanctions or enforcement measures.

Minister Middelhof reiterated that every business must have original, valid permits available and up to date. The initiative, he said, is part of the ministry’s broader effort to promote legal compliance, safety, and fair competition across Curaçao’s business community.
