WILLEMSTAD – The ruling party MFK (Movementu Futuro Kòrsou) has secured a landslide victory in Curaçao’s elections, winning 55% of the votes. This marks the first time in the country’s history that a single party has won an absolute majority, allowing it to govern alone.
Polling stations closed at 7:00 PM local time last night, with a 69% voter turnout—a slight decrease from the 74% recorded in the 2021 elections.
MFK to Govern Without Coalition
With this decisive win, the social-democratic MFK will govern independently, breaking away from its previous coalition with PNP. The party’s campaign focused on attracting foreign investments in tourism and logistics, expanding social housing, and improving primary healthcare by reducing wait times.
Silvania’s Strong Influence
Pre-election polls already predicted a dominant victory for MFK, largely driven by the popularity of Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas. However, the party’s number two, Javier Silvania, also played a key role in mobilizing voters with his bold and dynamic leadership style.
Silvania, currently serving as Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, was recently voted Curaçao’s most trusted politician. His strong public presence and direct approach helped drive voter enthusiasm.
With an outright majority in Parliament, MFK now has full control over the government, shaping the direction of Curaçao’s policies for the coming years.
