Member of Dutch Parliament inquires about healthcare for undocumented individuals in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten

THE HAGUE - Marieke Koekoek, Member of the Dutch Parliament for the political party Volt, has submitted questions to the State Secretaries of Health, Welfare, and Sport, and of the Interior and Kingdom Relations regarding access to healthcare for undocumented persons in Aruba, Sint Maarten, and Curaçao. These questions, filed on February 12, aim to improve the situation of refugees and undocumented individuals in the three countries of the Kingdom.

In her first question, Koekoek refers to the progress report from last October, following an adopted motion-Simons, which requests the Dutch government to engage in discussions with non-governmental organizations such as Sala pa Tur, Venex, and Fundashon Bos di Hubentut.

The Member of Parliament wants to know at what level discussions have taken place with these organizations within the framework of the mentioned motion.

The second question focuses on efforts regarding healthcare and the protection of undocumented minors, and how the technical assistance from the Netherlands is aligned with this. This underscores the importance of access to healthcare for these vulnerable groups.

The Dutch Parliament member suggests organizing a structural form of involvement from local organizations within the 'Four-Country Healthcare Consultation'. This proposal acknowledges the crucial role that local civil society organizations play in providing care to undocumented individuals and refugees.

Lastly, Koekoek draws attention to the accessibility and availability of medication for HIV and other infectious diseases within the framework of healthcare in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. This question emphasizes the need to make healthcare for undocumented individuals inclusive and accessible.
