Mauritsz de Kort Sworn In as New Governor of Curaçao

THE HAGUE - King Willem-Alexander officially swore in Mauritsz de Kort as the new Governor of Curaçao during a ceremony held Wednesday morning at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. De Kort’s appointment will take effect next Tuesday.

He succeeds Lucille George-Wout, who served as governor for 12 years, representing the King on the island and acting as head of government in Curaçao.

De Kort brings a distinguished judicial background to his new role. Since 2022, he has served as President of the Joint Court of Justice for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the special municipalities of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President of the Court and worked as both a lawyer and a judge.

His appointment marks the start of a new chapter in Curaçao’s constitutional leadership, as De Kort takes on the responsibility of representing the Dutch monarch and ensuring the integrity of governance within the Kingdom framework.
