Lottery boss says nothing new has been presented against him

WILLEMSTAD - In an interview with the Papiamento newspaper Extra, lottery boss Robbie dos Santos says that so far nothing new has come up during the interrogations after his arrest. Dos Santos is a suspect in the murder case of the former Member of Parliament Helmin Wiels. His brother former minister of finance George Jamaloodin was sentenced to prison for his alleged involvement in the murder, but he maintains his innocence.

Robbie dos Santos was arrested two weeks ago on Monday 18 November in Sint Maarten. The Public Prosecution accuses him as the one who ordered the murder of Helmin Wiels in May 2013.

“They have not asked me anything new compared to five years ago, said the lottery boss, who is being prosecuted again today.

Since the first arrest of Dos Santos in the Maximus case, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) claims to have collected new incriminating evidence against him and was able to order his arrest on that basis. In August 2014, after his first arrest, in this case, he was released by the court. Dos Santos remained a suspect.

The new evidence has now been presented by the Public Prosecutor in official records to an examining judge, who ruled that there are enough reasons and grounds for the detention of Dos Santos. According to the law, the detention is in force for a maximum of eight days. After that, Dos Santos was again presented to an examining magistrate, who decided that the lottery boss would be held for longer.
