WILLEMSTAD - The false statements made by former Attorney General Anthon van der Schans are a revenge against former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte. This is according to Schotte’s lawyer Lizaima da Costa Gomez.

During the Schotte cabinet there was a policy change that was to the detriment of the Attorney General and according to the lawyer that is the reason that Van der Schans would have lied.

Van der Schans indicated that he had received an email from the Italian Public Prosecutor Roberto Pellicano. Pellicano denies that, says Da Costa Gomez. The Attorney General started an investigation into Schotte’s actions on false pretense.

As was reported recently, according to the judge in the Court of First Instance, Pellicano may be heard as a witness by Schotte’s defense.

In the previous trial against Schotte, where he was sentenced to 3 years in prison for corruption, the Court did not want to hear Pellicano as a witness in the case against the former Prime Minister.

According to Da Costa Gomez, the Court has now granted this because there is now doubt in the statement made by the former Attorney General. That was not relevant according to the judge in the earlier trial.

According to the defense, the testimony of Pelicano makes it clear that the start of the criminal investigation is unlawful.
