Lack of transparency surrounding oil sale raises concerns

WILLEMSTAD - Giselle McWilliam, leader of the MAN party, has raised serious concerns about the lack of transparency in the recent sale of 450,000 barrels of oil by the Pisas government. McWilliam voiced her criticisms yesterday, asserting that Prime Minister Pisas has "a lot to explain."

The controversy stems from the sale of 'oil fuel,' which was reportedly conducted through a private sale, as revealed in media reports this week. McWilliam expressed her dismay at the government's silence on the matter, emphasizing the need for transparency in such transactions.

"It is scandalous that the public has not been informed about the details of the sale," McWilliam stated, highlighting the apparent lack of communication from the government regarding this significant transaction.

The MAN party leader contended that the cancellation of the scheduled auction on February 14 without providing any explanation added to the mystery surrounding the oil sale. Subsequently, it has been disclosed that the sale has indeed taken place, with a tanker already en route to the refinery on the island of St. Croix.

McWilliam asserted that the government's failure to communicate openly about such economic activities raises questions about its commitment to transparency. She emphasized that the citizens deserve to be informed about important decisions and transactions that may impact the economy and public interest.
