THE HAGUE - The Dutch government wants to terminate the Curaçao Growth Agreement, which was concluded last year after long and difficult negotiations with the Rhuggenaath cabinet.
Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops appears, he reports in a letter to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament, that he has proposed to the Curaçao Prime Minister to terminate the agreement and to include it in the package of conditions that the Netherlands wishes to attach to a subsequent (third) tranche of loans in order to alleviate the consequences of the corona crisis.
"In my letter of 19 May 2020, I indicated that from July onwards additional loans will be dependent on a package of measures aimed at structural reforms. These reforms will partly overlap with what is already included in the Growth Agreement. I have therefore proposed to Prime Minister Rhuggenaath to end the Growth Agreement as such and to incorporate it in the agreements made in the context of the additional liquidity support,” says Knops.
The undersecretary promises to "inform the Chamber after the decision has been made.
The decision on whether or not to grant new loans and the conditions attached to it will be decided on July 3 by the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
