King Willem-Alexander calls for unity within the Kingdom

THE HAGUE- In the Speech from the Throne, which traditionally takes place on the third Tuesday of September, King Willem-Alexander called for unity within the Kingdom. The King spoke, among other things, about the support that the Netherlands gives to help Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten through the corona crisis.

The King emphasized that the Caribbean part of the Kingdom has been hit hard by the crisis and the enormous decline in tourism. For Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, economic support measures similar to those in the Netherlands apply.

“Agreements have been made with the countries of Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten to ensure that financial support leads to an economy that is more resilient and more shock-resistant. It is important to always seek consensus. That makes our Kingdom as a whole stronger,” said the King.

Prinsjesdag is the day on which the reigning monarch of the Netherlands addresses a joint session of the States-General of the Netherlands to give the speech from the throne. This speech sets out the main features of government policy for the coming parliamentary session.
