WILLEMSTAD - Several pharmacies in Curaçao have recently started offering corona self-testing. The Public Health Inspectorate will investigate whether this is allowed and whether these rapid tests fall under the heading of 'registered medicines'.
The self-tests are available in the pharmacies in Brievengat, Janwe, Juliana, Mahaai, Nos Deseo, Sta Rosa and Montagne Nobo, among others.
These are the so-called rapid antigen tests, which are also sold in the Netherlands and other European countries, for example. This allows everyone at home to test for a possible corona infection using a cotton swab. Epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth has previously expressed doubts about the quality of such tests.
However, the self-tests are selling well. They are sold for 20 guilders and several pharmacies are already out of stock.
