WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, together with the Interim Minister of Public Health, Environment, and Nature, on behalf of the Government of Curaçao, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CAAM-HP (Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professionals). This agreement allows CAAM-HP to accredit international universities established in Curaçao.
CAAM-HP is internationally recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education as a high-quality organization. Universities that are accredited by CAAM-HP or other recognized organizations meet the new requirement set by the United States, which will be implemented on January 1, 2024. This requirement states that all universities must be accredited to allow their students to continue their studies in the United States. In 2019, Curaçao also implemented the requirement that medical universities established on the island must be accredited by an internationally recognized body.
Apart from CAAM-HP, there are two other internationally recognized organizations with agreements in place.
This signing is related to Avalon University Medical School, located at the WTC. Minister Mr. Sithree van Heydoorn and Minister Mr. Javier Silvania signed this agreement in the presence of the University Board and dignitaries, along with the Secretary General of MESKD, Ms. Susan Larmonie-van Heydoorn, and the Inspector-General of Public Health, Mr. Sirving Keli.
With this agreement, the government provides more opportunities for international professionalism in the field of health education.
