Government open to discuss growth strategy with unions

WILLEMSTAD - In a letter to Errol Cova, the Prime Minister of Curacao, Eugene Rhuggenaath declared that the input of the trade unions that have united as Solidaridat Sindikal has been included in the growth strategy for Curaçao. This was done just like other proposals from groups in the community.

The prime minister assured to the unions that the socio-economic situation of Curaçao has the full attention of the government.

His cabinet keeps the door open for consultation and input from the trade unions. With the letter to Cova, the prime minister confirms that the ReForSá plan has been added to the growth strategy for Curaçao. "The government is willing to do further research into how Solidaridat Sindikal's contribution can be incorporated, as soon as this is possible." In the meantime, the government is "available for consultation and cooperation at any time" and welcomes 'the necessary input' from the unions.

The door is not only wide open for the unions, but for all parties. "The Curaçao government is open to suggestions and is prepared to continue the road in dialogue with the social partners."

"At the same time, the government respects the contribution and participation of all official existing structures, such as the Social and Economic Council and the National Dialogue Platform."

From the outset, Solidaridat Sindikal has been protesting against the policy of the Rhuggenaath cabinet as laid down in the growth strategy. The united trade unions say that they were not involved in the creation of the document “Growth Strategy” which was presented to the Netherlands. They called it a "direct attack on the working class".

The unions fear that, among other things, the flexibilization of the labor market and adjustments to the dismissal law will result in more redundancies, employees being exploited and salaries going down. ”In the letter, the government seems to want to avoid a protest by emphasizing that it welcomes the participation of Solidaridat Sindikal.
