WILLEMSTAD - Former Prime Minister of Curaçao Gerrit Schotte went on a hunger strike on Sunday. He was sentenced to three years in prison and started serving time since the end of last year. He was convicted of official corruption, bribe and forgery.
Schotte went on a hunger strike in protest against the measures announced by the prison management. From July 1, prisoners can only air for a maximum of three hours a day. That used to be much longer.
The measure was announced because of the many violence in the prison. There is also a persistent problem with delivering drugs to prison, including through drones.
