Former Minister of Education accuses President of Parliament of undermining democracy and forgery

WILLEMSTAD - Former PAR member and minister, Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé, filed a complaint against the President of Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta and the secretary of the party Kimberly Ascencion for inciting forgery of documents "to undermine the democratic process"

Alcalá-Wallé says that she heard in the media that with the departure of Jeser El Ayoubi, there would be a vacant place in parliament. “In accordance with the Curaçao Election Regulations, the chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council must notify the elected person by letter that he / she has been declared elected as a member of the Parliament of Curaçao according to the decision of the Supreme Electoral Council.

Alcalá-Wallé says that she respects democracy as well as the principles of the Curaçao Election Regulations and has not yet heard from the Supreme Electoral Council that she has been declared elected member of the Parliament. In the previous elections in 2017, she was number three on the list of candidates, obtaining 522 votes.

Alcalá-Wallé did receive a letter last week, where she was instructed by the secretary of the PAR, Kimberly Ascencion, in consultation with the President of Parliament Ana-Maria Pauletta, to sign, scan and return. The letter says that she does not accept the vacant place in parliament.

"The chairman's intention was to deliberately undermine democracy and to make a priori choice of who will take the vacant position in Parliament," Alcalá-Wallé accuses the President of Parliament. This was also publicly proclaimed in the media, showing very little respect for the democratic process. The text of the draft letter addressed a meeting of the President of Parliament, of which the undersigned is not aware of, nor was. And yet the undersigned was instructed to sign such a letter, which implies forgery.”

The former PAR minister ends her letter with an explicit request to the Public Prosecution Service to prosecute both Pauletta and Ascencion "for the violation of the National Ordinance Electoral Regulations Curaçao".
