Fixed shipping connection has been an obstacle to trade relations for years

WILLEMSTAD - There is still no fixed shipping connection between the northern Colombian port city of Rio Hacha and Curacao. Since 2011, according to Minister of Economic Development Giselle Mc William, attempts have been made to achieve that, but so far without results.

The port city is relatively close to Curacao and it would be a solution for the island if an agreement can be concluded about this. This could make Colombia a real and affordable alternative to the supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, now that we have not been supplied from Venezuela here for months.

The minister recently visited Rio Hacha with a delegation and is hopeful that the Colombian transport minister Ángela Maria Morozco will soon put her signature under a document that would mean a major leap forward in trade relations between the two countries.
