FAQ answered by government officials

WILLEMSTAD - This morning, the Department of Communication and Information held an information session where they answered several questions they received through communication channels like social media and e-mail.

Here are some of the answers:

Apparently, it is not possible for hardware stores to open. This was a bit confusing because on Sunday the government said that hardware stores can remain open but now they are saying it is not possible.

Only vital activities can remain operative. For example, a car mechanic cannot open but if there is an emergency, like an ambulance that needs to be repaired, then a mechanic can work. But for everything else, it is not allowed.

If you need to take care of someone like an elderly, that is allowed for now without a permit. If a police officer stops you, tell them you are taking care of this person. The officer might go with you to see if
this is true. Soon there will be special passes for these types of activities.

Wholesale companies can remain open but only to supply to supermarkets, toko's and mini markets. They are not allowed to do home deliveries. 

Construction work is not part of the vital activities.

No one can dump garbage at the landfill Malpais. Only the waste disposal company Selikor.

So, in short, only vital activities are allowed.

Yesterday the Coast Guard announced that fishing is not allowed. Now the government is saying that fishing is allowed. There is a little bit of confusion there. But you need to be registered at the Ministry of Nature  to be able to go fishing.
Transport companies can supply only to vital companies, like supermarkets, toko's, mini markets and pharmacies. They are not allowed to go to other places.

Snack bars (snèk) and restaurants are considered a luxury. They are not allowed to open.

Remember, not because a company is on the vital or essential list means they can remain open. It is only if their activity or business is important then it can operate. Restaurants, cafes, snack bars, hotels,
etc. are not vital and they need to remain closed. Some hotels still have guests so they can remain open until their guests have departed.

Laundries are not allowed to open. They can only open if they need to perform a vital activity. This will be indicated by the authorities.

Hardware stores are not allowed to open anymore. Only if they are requested for vital activities.

Not all medical specialists can work. If they need to perform vital work, then they need to be exonerated for that specific activity. Only emergencies. That will be decided by the General Practitioner.

Fruit and Vegetable stores are toko's. They are allowed to open. But fruit stands like the one in front of Hofi Bill near Sambil Shopping Center is not allowed.

Veterinarians are allowed to open. Companies that give services like grooming dogs are not allowed to work.

Alcohol distribution can only supply supermarkets and mini markets. They are not allowed to distribute to other places.

All these measures are in principle for two weeks. After those two weeks it will be evaluated whether it needs to be extended.

Don't use info@kalamidat.cw for questions, it is overloaded. The police are working on a new system for exonerations and to request information.

If someone works at the hospital but not in the medical care section, but does administrative work, in principle they should stay home, but if the hospital needs them, they can work.

Supermarkets are allowed to deliver at home. But they need to be careful and maintain social distance. Do not come in physical contact with clients.

Curacao Port Services (CPS) is allowed to remain open. They are vital for the island.

Bakery supply companies can continue distributing to bakeries. Bakeries are essential.

A child from divorced parents must remain in one place as much as possible. If the child needs to spend time with both parents, it is advised to stay one week at each. This will minimize the child's
movement.

Stay at home, stay at home, stay at home! If we do this, we will minimize the
spread of the virus.

The most important information right now that the government can give is to stay at home. In principle, everybody needs to stay at home. So, stay at home!!!
