Every minister to receive $25,000 credit card for travel expenses, resulting in ‘cost savings’

WILLEMSTAD - Finance Minister Javier Silvania has announced that every minister of Curaçao will now be provided with a credit card worth $25,000 for their official business trips. This measure is expected to result in annual savings of 1.2 million guilders, according to the minister.

Previously, business trips were arranged through Maduro Travel, as the agency accepted delayed payment through order forms.

The newly introduced credit card will cover expenses such as airfare, car rentals, hotel stays, representation costs, and telecommunication expenses for both the minister and the accompanying delegation.

An evaluation of the new system will be conducted no later than the end of October. Silvania emphasizes that there will still be strict accountability for all costs incurred during business travel.

The nine ministries currently spend 4.4 million guilders annually on travel and accommodation expenses. In addition to their monthly salary, ministers already receive an allowance of 750 guilders for representation expenses.
